Figure skating as an alternative to fitness

Often in mass skating, you can see little skaters crafting complex elements. Many adults envy them and regret that at one time they did not have the opportunity to train on ice. There is no need to envy, because today this sport is open to everyone: in many cities there are schools that teach adult lovers of figure skating. Training takes place in a friendly atmosphere, and the training system is built taking into account the specifics of the age.

Advantages and disadvantages

Many consider amateur skating to be a futile activity. In part, they are right: adult uncles and aunts will definitely not become Olympic champions and big sports stars. But why lay claim to the laurels of a titled athlete if you can do it for your own pleasure. Skating on ice provides emotional relief, and the training process is much more fun than exhausting fitness workouts. In the classroom, much attention is paid not only to ice, but also to general physical fitness. Athletes work a lot on stretching, plastic and body flexibility. Directly on ice, adult amateurs gradually master the basic elements. Trainers break down each element into a series of components. High speed for completing tasks is not required: the emphasis is on the correct movement. This makes learning safe and allows the beginner to rejoice even in small successes.

In training, all the muscles of the body are involved. As a result, the muscle corset is strengthened, coordination of movements, posture and metabolism are improved. Figure skating allows you to get rid of extra pounds – in one training the body burns up to 400 calories. Among the disadvantages of figure skating is the increased risk of injury, because the ice is very slippery, and even professionals are not safe from falls. You can protect yourself with the help of knee pads and elbow pieces. If you have doubts about your stability, you should put a helmet on your head. This will not cause laughter – coaches and associates will treat precautionary measures with understanding. Classes in figure skating are contraindicated for those who suffer from osteoporosis and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Intensive training gives a strong burden on the heart, so people with cardiovascular diseases should start classes only after consulting with their doctor. People with chronic diseases do the same. If the attending physician has allowed moderate physical activity, the trainer must be informed before starting classes. When the question of the start of classes has been resolved, equipment should be selected.

Buying skates

First of all, a beginner should pick up good skates. Ideally, this should be a professional or semi-professional model with a prong for single skating. Such skates are sharpened by a groove. They have a rigid body that holds the ankle joint. Inside – soft linings. Suitable models like Riedel, Risport or Wifa are sold in company stores, but they are not cheap. If you are not sure that the hobby for figure skating will last a long time, you should look for ads for sale of white skates on Avito or on the Tulup website. The latter is a popular platform on which amateurs and pros post ads for the sale and purchase of skates, and coaches offer individual skating. You can start skating on ordinary skates for mass skating, make sure that figure skating is yours, and then buy a professional model.

When the issue with the skates is resolved, you should learn the correct lacing. The boot is laced from bottom to top. Mandatory requirement: toes should be freely bent, unbent. They do not tear themselves away from the insole, but also do not drag out so as not to disturb the blood circulation in the feet. A tight fit of the heel to the insole and the back of the boot is ensured by tightening the lower pair of hooks and the upper pair of holes. The ankles should be firmly pressed to the boots. The lacing should be such that a finger cannot be inserted between the ridge and lower leg. At the same time, it is not necessary to pull the laces tightly: each subsequent pair of hooks is tightly laced, but does not tighten much. The correct lacing is checked very simply. To do this, stand up straight and close your legs. If the heel does not move forward, the foot does not walk with a shiver, the shoe sits on its foot, like a glove, but without discomfort – everything is done correctly.

Training uniform

Training clothes should be comfortable. For training on ice, tight-fitting sports trousers or leggings are suitable. A thin cotton sock is worn under the skates. Be sure to wear a sweater or sweater. Underneath is a hebesh t-shirt. Hands are insulated with gloves. You can wear a light cap or a woolen bandage on your head. If the training process drags on, you can go broke on the purchase of thermal overalls, which is designed for cold skating rinks.

In addition to ice training, figure skating schools provide classes in the hall. For dry training, you need to take sneakers and a replaceable t-shirt. Since the lesson is intense, it is not forbidden to bring water. After training, you need to change into a clean, dry T-shirt. In order not to carry packages with two sets of uniforms with you, you should buy a spacious sports bag.

Since figure skating is one of the aesthetic sports, it puts forward a number of requirements for the appearance of an athlete. Performing them is easy. For example, in girls, hair should be gathered in a ponytail or in a neat bundle. The hairstyle is fixed so that it does not distract from classes. The form is always clean, all the holes are darned, all the folds are ironed. Appearance shows not only the culture of a person, but also his attitude to others and the chosen sport.

Basic training

Often, beginners come to the first training, expecting that they will be taught to perform unrealistically beautiful and difficult elements like a swallow or bilman. But in real life they are forced to learn uninteresting boring movements. As a rule, trainers teach wards to slide back and forth on the inner and outer edges, show the so-called flashlights and cross-rolls. In addition, instructors explain the rules of braking, give elements that will allow you to master the cross-country forward and backward. As the slip skill improves, the trainer suggests learning more complex movements.

It seems to many that studying the base is a waste of time. However, this is not the case. It is simply dangerous for a novice who can barely stand on his feet to perform more complex elements. The risk of falling increases at times, and improper execution is fraught with injuries. To bring the desired goal closer, you should find time for additional classes and ride on your own. As a rule, independent trainings take place in mass skating with a large crowd of people.

In order not to create a traumatic situation, you should look straight ahead and move counterclockwise. If you need to work out the element, you should stand up so as not to interfere with other participants in the movement. If you are afraid to perform the movement, it is better to train it near the side. In just a few lessons, self-confidence will appear, it will be possible to break away from the side and try your hand at large ice.

You should not set yourself the time to master the element after such and such a time: in an amateur sport, the only rival is your own body.

Many adult amateurs engage in so-called health groups, enjoying riding and chatting with like-minded people. However, among them there are champions who take part in amateur figure skating competitions. Preparation for such events takes a lot of time and effort. The financial component cannot be ruled out: starting fees, costumes and travel expenses. But the desire to become better than himself is always stronger than all obstacles.
